Dana Point Fishing BeachesThere are many great surf fishing beaches around Dana Point including Salt Creek Beach, Doheny State Beach, & Strands Beach in Dana Point. Along with the usual surf species such as barred surf perch and corbina, these beaches can produce leopard sharks, halibut, and even white sea bass. Fish near kelp line or rocks and catch calico bass, sheepshead, and rockfish. Beaches off Dana Point offer some of the most diverse gamefish opportunities in Southern California. Squid works well both on the sandy beaches and around rocks and kelp. Other cut baits and artificial lures also work quite well.
Fishing Dana Point Harbor
Dana Point Harbor has great fishing for many different species of fish from yellowfin croaker to halibut and even barracuda in the summer months. Light line is the key and fishing live bait is always a plus. Most fishing is catch and release. Try around boat pilings for sand bass and spotted bay bass or the many docks that are throughout the harbor.
Fishing Dana Point Jetty
Dana Point Harbor also has a long jetty that faces out along the ocean. Numerous species can be caught including some huge gamefish such as the protected black seabass, white sea bass, halibut, and many others. There are couple restrictions with this area being a marine protected area, which include not using mussel or squid for bait. Incoming tides are great time to fish this jetty.
